Organized by Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), World Water Week is the leading global conference for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation on water. As an independent and impartial non-profit event co-created with leading organizations, it brings together a diverse community of participants from many professional backgrounds and regions. We also maintain a longstanding partnership with the City of Stockholm, including through the Stockholm Water Prize and Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
World Water Week is held every year and centres each edition around a theme selected to both set and reflect the global agenda, aligning with UN World Water Day. The Week is designed to raise awareness of the theme, advance the debate, build new consensus, and facilitate learning across sectors.
As SIWI’s annual flagship event, World Water Week is central to our mission. Through this platform, we convene diverse actors, co-create knowledge, and strengthen capacity for more inclusive, resilient, and effective water governance.
SIWI organizes and governs World Water Week to create a trusted, impartial space where science, policy, and practice come together. As SIWI’s flagship initiative, the Week is a central way for us to convene diverse actors, co-create knowledge, and strengthen capacity for more inclusive, resilient, and effective water governance.
World Water Week helps drive progress far beyond the event itself. It begins new partnerships, strengthens international cooperation, and influences policy discussions across climate, development, and water governance. This is where ideas evolve into action.
World Water Week began in 1991 as a scientific symposium and has grown into the leading conference for water cooperation. Its evolution reflects SIWI’s deep roots in science, dialogue, and global collaboration.
Rooted in Sweden’s long tradition of environmental leadership, World Water Week reinforces Stockholm’s role as a global hub for sustainability dialogue. SIWI works closely with the City of Stockholm and the Stockholm Water Foundation, which administers the Stockholm Water Prize and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize under royal patronage.
