Unpacking freshwater’s role: Climate mitigation measures in land systems
The mitigation potential of land systems, such as forests, grasslands, and agricultural systems, is closely connected to, and dependent on, the water cycle. However, many of these ecosystems are degraded and suffer from unsustainable management, leading to broken water cycles, biodiversity loss, and desertification.

What is the role of freshwater in climate change mitigation? This spring Swedish Water House will host a webinar series diving into the chapters of the recently launched report “The essential drop to reach Net-Zero: Unpacking Freshwater’s Role in Climate Change Mitigation”.

In this webinar we will present the findings from the chapter “Mitigation measures in land systems”. Chapter lead authors and guests will examine the mitigation potential and risks in land-based systems, and illustrate how the success of land-based climate mitigation relies substantially on freshwater availability and a functioning water cycle.
